Workstation and moulds
I made a workstation using reclaimed wood from the former Ilur workstation.
Some old beams we still had in the shed were sawn to make supports for the stations.
I did transfer the station plans onto the 12 mm plywood using a piercer so I could mirror the plan.
Then connecting the holes (or dents) with straight lines.
Cutting the plywood with a fine jigsaw.
All 5 stations done.
Marking the landings and waterline on both sides.
The centre line.
The first station is on.
All 5 in place but they don't seem to match; What's wrong?
I just couldn't get the moulds of the Auklet to match. After a lot of brain work I found out that in the set they sent me one of the drawings (no.4) belonged to another boat.
'Auk' instead of 'Auklet'
That explained a lot!
I noticed this way too late of course.
A bit frustrated I then started selecting wood from my stock to see what I could use for the Auklet.
I started to make a mould for the inner stern (Apron).
Some blocks lined up in the right curve.
8 slats glued.
Using the apron as a mould I glued the stern alongside it wrapped in household foil to prevent things sticking together.
It is important to do it at this point and not after the apron has vanished underneath the planking. Then you won't be able to use clamps anymore.
This week I received the right drawing nr. 4. Iain Oughtred sent me and I cut out 2 new station moulds and yes now the moulds match. I feel relieved.
Another drawing on the workbench
Before cutting out the moulds with a jigsaw. I cut in the lines with a Stanley knife to prevent chipping the wood along the rim.
